U.S. senator and other officials visit campus in support of faster forensics work

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, State Sen. Wendy Davis, Fort Worth Police Chief Jeff Halstead, Fort Worth Forensic Crime Lab Director Tom Stimpson and sexual assault survivor/victim advocate Lavinia Masters were among visitors to UNTHSC on Sept. 17 to discuss Cornyn’s legislation aimed at ending the backlog of rape case evidence handling.

We are Military Friendly . . . again!

Once again, the UNT Health Science Center has been honored with the Military Friendly School designation. We’ve received this title each year since 2010 from Victory Media and G.I. Jobs, a magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.

Reforming professional education is topic of upcoming symposium

“Reforming and Renewing the Education of Professions: An Interactive View of Professionalism,” a symposium scheduled Sept. 20-21 at the MET, will bring together faculty and practitioners in health professions including medicine, nursing and medical science, as well as ministry and law.

Look how green we’re growing!

In 2011 the UNTHSC campus recycled 233 tons of cardboard, paper, plastic, aluminum and glass, saving nearly 3,000 mature trees and enough electricity to power more than 80 homes for a year.

DO Dash 5k set for Oct. 13

This year’s DO Dash 5K and Kids 1 Mile Run is set for Saturday, Oct. 13. Organized by the TCOM Class of 2015, DO Dash benefits the Alliance for Children, a children’s advocacy center in Tarrant County dedicated to fighting child abuse.
